King Srivavadeva of the Deva dynasty undertook its construction. A total of six and reconstruction phases of Shalban Bihar had been mentioned.

Construction of the third phase of the temple began in the 8th century AD. And the reformed work began. Construction of the fourth and fifth phases also started in the 9th to 10th centuries.

It was the ultimate creation of King Srivavadeva. Raja Srivavadeva had created this place for Buddhist prison. Then, the king made it for the religious peace and harmony of the Buddhists.

In Shalban Bihar, it had the ground plan. The Buddhist Bihar had four surrounding walls with 115 of these monastic cells. These monastic cells were used for religious practices. And sometimes, the Buddhists utilized it for their monk studies also.

The monastery was known as Shalban Rajar Bari. But after revealing, the ground plan of a Buddhist monastery became exposed.

The exposed monastery had measured about 550″ to 500″ inches with 115 monastic cells. Now it is known as Shalban Bihar.

The wall surrounding Bihar is five meters wide. You will enjoy the 115 rooms built for beggars. The size of the chambers is about 3.73× 3.73 m.

The rooms are separated from one another by a 1.50-meter wide wall. There were three niches in each room. These have used to hold statues of gods and goddesses, oil lamps, books, etc.

There is a narrow entrance in the center of the broad wall in front of the rooms. There are no windows in any room. The existence of a 2.54 m wide verandah in front of the rooms has been assumed.

Then there are the Bihar premises. The rooms were built only for the beggars to live. But seeing the brick altar in the middle of the room, many people think it was used for worship.

There were also cruciform temples. The main cruciform temple was located in the center of the Bihar courtyard. It reveals patterns of six construction eras at different stages.

Shalban Bihar has taken 8.9 KM from Comilla university road for any transport. Nobo Shalban Bihar takes 1 hour 46 minutes by foot.

This Buddhist temple is situated on the banks of the Shalban monastery. The central location of World Peace Pagoda Analayo is situated in Shalmanpur. Shalmanpur was 9.2 kilometers away from Comilla city.

It takes 32 minutes for any transport to go there. If you want to go there walking, it needs 1hour 51 minutes.


How Will Go To Shalban Bihar?

If you go through any travel agency, you can wear six thousand or seven thousand per person. It will take two to two and a half hours by road from Dhaka.

There are many bus services from Dhaka to Comilla. You can take any bus of your choice. Tisha or Asia line non-AC bus fare from Sayedabad will be 150-200 taka.

From Kamalapur on Royal, Coastal, Star Line, or BRTC (AC / Non-AC) fares, it will be 150-300 taka. If you don’t want to travel by bus, you can go to Comilla by train. Most of the trains from Dhaka to Chittagong stop at Comilla.

It will accept Subarna and Sonar Bangla trains. Train fare from Dhaka to Comilla is 90-250 taka per person.

Get off the Comilla bus and go to Kandirpar. You have to get off at Kandirpar. And get off at the CNG bus stand near the Awami League office.

From Comilla, you can reach the main base of Shalban Buddhist monastery by rickshaw or auto CNG. The rent is twenty to thirty taka per person.

CNG rent is 150-200 taka per person if you reserve it. Then go straight to Shalbon Bihar through Kotabari.

It will cost less to travel from Comilla to Shalban Bihar via local road by local auto.
